Mission Beach

I’m going to split up this vacation blog into several mini posts to make the uploading easier. I also think it prints better this way. 

For spring break this year we ventured to California. This trip has been a long time coming. Some of the plane tickets were actually vouchers from 2020 when we intended to take the family to meet their new brother but then had to cancel because coronavirus made it to the USA. We thought we’d piggyback vacation and reconnecting with family, seeing San Diego, Victorville and Big Bear. We brought reinforcements - Pop and Grandma - both for our own enjoyment, theirs, and the obvious assistance that is one to one child to grown-up coverage. 

For the first leg of the trip we stayed in a cozy condo on Mission Beach, facing the bay but a short walk from the Pacific. Other than the fact that we had a noise complaint called on us on our first night, it was magnificent! The kids could almost independently walk back and forth from the ocean, and I’m glad it was so close because we went two or three times a day. They could not get enough. It was sunny, breezy, and about 60 degrees. Each day we walked about 15,000 steps and in almost every case, Jacob was the leader of our pack.  He'd run out front and lead the way independently.  On the beach, there was lots of digging, plenty of swimming, skipping stones and hunting for kelp/crabs/seashells/sea glass to play with! 

As you browse the pictures, keep in mind we spent 3 days in San Diego; sorry mom only packed the kids one bathing suit each!! I obviously didn’t expect us to get in the ocean everyday. 

 

Overall, the kids are excellent at traveling. Their energy exceeded the spaces only a little and their behavior overall exceeded our expectations. Pop was the favorite to sit with which was cute too.
