Back at the ranch

During this portion of the trip we stayed in a cozy log cabin at Big Bear Lake.  We all really enjoyed the venue and amenities of this cabin.... however, the drive up and back proved to be a challenge!  Big Bear is at 6700ft elevation and the narrow road up was incredibly windy. (Meaning lots of bends, not breeze).  Almost everyone suffered at least minor car sickness and there was some vomiting too.  Futhermore, while we in PA had one of the warmest winters on record, Southern California was just coming out of one of the coldest winters on record.  Earlier in the season, Big Bear access roads had been shut down due to snow!

While we were there, temperatures dipped into the teens at night and daytime highs were in the 40s.  We hiked a bit and the trail was muddy but there were plenty of snow banks to play in and on as well.  Jayden calmed his dehydration (LOL) by eating snow ;) !!!  While we ate out almost every meal in San Diego, Grandma and Pop cooked up some delicious dinners while we were up North.  The kids went in the hot tub at least once a day and in the evenings we got into a new show, Lemony Snickets.  It was a nice place to come back to and rest after the emotionally intense reunions during the days.
