What a wonderful kid. We hear it from everyone and are beyond grateful for his impact on us and so many others, even at such a young age. Lukas is smart, responsible, easy-going and rule-following, but it’s more than that. He’s got a huge heart, just full of compassion and he puts himself last everyday. He’s a peacemaker, and yes that’s a key survival skill in our household, but still it’s something Mike and I so appreciate! Nick is the most likely brother to get under his skin. But overall, I cannot overstate how he makes little sacrifices for his brothers every single day. His empathy and emotional intelligence rival most adults.
Lukas is also a great all-around athlete, as evidenced by his cross country and football performances this fall. During this his final year of flag football, he pulled the most flags, scored the most touchdowns, ran the most yards and was an all around leader on the team. In cross country he was less dominant but grew just as much or more and showed a good work ethic and loads of improvement throughout the season. And when he’s not playing an official sport, he’s shooting hoops in the driveway, jumping on the trampoline, watching football, baseball or basketball in tv, or reading about them on ESPN. He’s obsessed!
In school he’s learning Spanish, how to sew and cook, 3D print things, modify graphics, work with wood, and so much more. He’s active in youth group and plays saxophone and piano.
What’s the most teenager-y thing about Luke? Although he’s moody some mornings, I haven’t seen him sleep in past 8, so that’s not it. He’s froogle. He still hugs and kisses his momma, even in public, so that doesn’t fit. But, he probably thinks he could survive entirely on junk food, and he’s the absolute worst at eating his vegetables!
For his birthday, we got a new in-ground basketball hoop installed and Mike painted lines on our driveway for an official court! The hoop goes down to 5 feet so even the little guys can dunk!! It’s brought so many smiles already, definitely a worthy investment!

I don’t have as many pics of Lukas as I do the little guys but I think this is my favorite of the year.
We love you buddy! We cannot wait to see how God uses you in the next year! You have richly blessed us over these 13 years!!!
What a beautiful tribute to a special young man.
ReplyDeleteYou and Mike have instilled all these traits in Lukas. What a great role model he is for the younger ones.
