We left at 10am on Saturday, which was, apparently, the worst possible time to leave, intending to travel around DC towards North Carolina. The traffic was outrageous, we drove under 30mph for a good majority of our first four hours and barely made it south of DC in that time, and then we tried, like a bunch of rookies, to get fast food and take a pee break. Little did we know that no fast food restaurants (or gas stations) are open for customers to come inside and use the facilities. Up in PA they’re apparently more liberal with the COVID restrictions, although admittedly we haven’t gone for fast food in more than a year, so I guess we don’t really know for sure. At any rate, we ultimately drove through for our fast food, ate it in the grass next to Target and used their bathrooms before getting back on the road to sit in some more traffic! In spite of all this, there was only a moderate amount of moaning and actually a lot more laughter than anything (absurdity makes for lots of jokes) which we were all very thankful for. The drive ended with a hard rain, and 10.5 hours after leaving, we finally arrived at Who’s on First in Southern Shores.
Monday was “infinity” times better (unanimous vote) than Sunday and the weather beat the forecast by over 10 degrees! It was gorgeous and everyone instantly forgot the frustrations of the day before. The kids had a blast in the hot tub and the ocean, digging, and burying!
Tuesday wasn’t nearly as warm but still bright and beautiful with fun trips to the hot tub and ocean again. We also dyed eggs and began a 1000-piece puzzle! And visited the largest sand dune on the East Coast!!
Above: Nicholas found a small lizard and it was love at first sight. We only held onto him for a few minutes but they were precious.
Below: This picture needs a little explanation and if you can, zoom in. It's a Pfeiffer Long jump which is a regular sport with this crew and this beach version has a hole that you had to clear, with marsh grass blades sticking straight up out of it, aka "death sticks", one of which had a feather attached to it (I think they called it a peeper tickler) and then there were shells on the far side to pinch you when you fell! LOL it was really fun and funny and they all took at least a dozen turns each. What's funny is that Jacob, the littlest overall is the most determined, confident and also somewhat speedy. He loves to long jump. Maybe he'll be momma's little track star one day.

Going to break this into a few blogs to make the uploads manageable and real time!
Beyond thankful for this time. We’re really enjoying being together all six of us all day and truly relaxing!!!
