Milestones

Since I haven't been blogging as much I wanted to take this opportunity to write down what everyone's been up to!

Jacob just turned 1! This summer, his brown hair turned blonde and got curly.  He has blue eyes and looks a lot like Mike.  He's still got a lot of adorable baby chubb (as evidenced by his fat roll tan lines!) and wears 18 month clothes.  He's cruising and crawling, he learned to climb stairs while we were away on vacation! He mimics a lot of sounds and his favorite is dada. He also says something that sounds like out-do-do which we think means he wants to go outside.  He sometimes says ut-oh, upon command by Lukas mostly! He laughs a lot and loves his brothers, especially when they're tickling him!  He adores Ruby, and she must like him too because she lets him pull her hair and kisses him on the mouth.  He's a very picky eater; could live on yogurt alone. He has four teeth and a Molar! So weird.  Likes mud and sand, dirt and mulch, splashing in Ruby's water bowl, and did I mention sand? Yeah this is the kid who spits out mashed potatoes but swallows sand! He's cuddly and cute, smiles and sleeps easy. He's a great little guy and rounds out our family just right.

Nicholas is 2.5! He's disgusting. Literally just covered in dirt almost all the time. He loves being outside, sweats easy, and never gets tired of playing in the dirt, rocks, or climbing. He pedals a tricycle. He's very agile, a great jumper, and likes to sing or be sung to (especially "this little light of mine," and "Jesus loves me"). He absolutely loves being read to; lift the flap books, find me books and books about animals.  He has several parts of several books memorized.  He talks well, in complete sentences, pretends almost constantly and definitely doesn't know the difference between real and imaginary.  He saw a bear on the beach outside our house on vacation everyday.  He is still roaring regularly!  He loves high 5s and fist bumps. Nick is always saying, watch this! Or, what's that? He's even learning to play 20 questions (our favorite road trip activity!). He eats and sleeps great. He can play rough and has a temper but is also exceedingly well mannered and loves to pray ("dear god, thank you for peas, thank you for hot dogs..."). He loves his brothers but hates when they take anything he perceives as his, which is everything. He's hilarious and fun.  Nick is a mammas boy.  We couldn't have picked a better child to fit into our family; so glad god knew just what he was doing!

Lukas is 6.5 and heading into first grade! He's smart and did great in school this year. I believe he might be a teachers pet! He can read small books. He has good math skills too. He has a tremendous vocabulary and remembers what words mean and is always listening to what we say and applying his new learnings in his next dissertation. Lukas talks and talks. He talks through dinner and the topics range from his day, to animal factoids, transformer retellings from a show he just watched, proposals about which friend he wants to have a play date with next, or the real ness of elves. He's thoughtful and caring and hates when his brothers cry. He's a picky eater but is broadening his palate and does love dessert. Lukas is creative. He has lots of friends, likes transformers and legos, games, puzzles, scootering and running through the sprinkler. He's almost always a good role model and helps out a lot around the house or with the "babies".  He's a great big brother, daddy's boy and oldest child, we are so proud of him already!
