For President's day weekend this year, Mike and I took off Friday, Monday and Tuesday. As it turned out, the weather was unseasonably warm - in the 50's and 60's and we had a fabulous time. The kids were able to play in the creek for the first time this year. Now that the back brush is cleared out, we can see from the house all the way down to the creek - which is really good news because now that Nicholas knows it's back there, he wants to go out there and stay out there all the time! Tonight I had to bribe him with the promise of "treats," because offering dinner and TV had no effect and he would not come in. This weekend, we also went up to Middle Creek wildlife management area with Grandma and Grandpa to see the snow geese. And we went to the Franklin Institute in Philly to see the Jurassic world exhibit. The Jurassic exhibit was awesome - it was truly impressive that they seemed to attempt to make the dinosaurs true to size. The kids were amazed, and surprisingly not scared. Lukas kept asking if they were real, and had a list of several reasons why he was pretty convinced that they were.
In addition, you'll notice, that Jacob now has glasses. Our pediatrician had suggested we get him screened, based on his older brother's history, so we headed back to our beloved Dr. McManaway. Both boys got their eyes dilated (oh joy) and unfortunately, we found out that Jacob has a mildly droopy eyelid and is significantly far sighted. Although he doesn't have an eye turn (crossed eyes) yet, he could develop it easily since he is so far sighted. So, the glasses are an attempt to avoid future surgery for an eye turn. He's done surprisingly well with them, and only chews them about twenty times a day ;)
Here Lukas and Nick are doing their first round of easter eggs! Yes, I know, Lent hasn't even begun yet. I don't know why Luke got it in his head, but once he did, there was no convincing him otherwise. Lucky for him, mommy had two leftover boxes of dye in the basement!
Nicholas is still roaring, as you see above. This dirt pile is on the lot next to ours, which is obviously still unoccupied. For now, it's like the kids biggest sandbox and they could spend hours on end out there, especially Nick. He just never gets tired of moving dirt, throwing dirt, eating dirt, stacking rocks, or sliding down this dirt hill.
On the topic of milestones, Nick is talking quite a bit, he probably says 200 words or more. He puts some phrases together but not real sentences yet. The words he knows are pretty interesting though. He knows dozens of animals. He hasn't learned any colors yet, except brown, which he knows is the color of "mud!" and yellow, which is "sun!". It's pretty funny. In addition, he doesn't know any shapes except circle, which he very proudly proclaims whenever looking at overhead lights or other circles throughout the house. Whenever I ask him what shape is this and point to a square, he says "shape!" hehehe. He is just beginning to learn numbers, and he loves to count "1, 2, 3, go," at the start of a race. His love of music does seem to be continuing and I've been referring to him as a singer songwriter lately. It's hilarious, he often sings "go away, go away, go away," a lovely tune he's written himself. It began: whenever I am trying to keep him out of a cabinet in the kitchen, or the dishwasher, oven or pantry. If I push on the door so he can't get in, then he pushes against my legs saying "go away," and then he just started singing it! Now we all sing it pretty often and he recently declared it "my favorite song." Just last night, he sung a similar tune, "hot dog, hot dog, hot dog." LOL :)
