Jayden brings joy and laughter to everyday and tries to find the humor in every situation. He has a generally happy disposition and is rather resilient. Jayden loves nerf guns, Minecraft, crayfish, bugs, playtime with friends, swimming, biking and silliness of any kind. His favorite color is green. He likes to eat and isn’t picky at all, and always tries things even if / especially if they’re spicy. His favorites are probably pizza and chicken nuggets but he also likes shrimp, ziti, soups, and everything else.
Over the last few months Jayden has been able to form bonds with all his brothers. He plays most consistently well with Jacob, although they are still brothers who use their fingers and fists instead of their words sometimes. He also gets along well with Lukas, especially because he’s interested in playing football like the big bro. All 3 of the littles can quietly enjoy hours of Lego in their rooms together, building and sharing like the best of friends. In those increasingly frequent moments, we’re amazed by their connectedness and growth.
In a couple of days, Jayden is headed off to kindergarten, and we think he’s ready. In the past few months, he’s hit many milestones; pretending, imagining and becoming more interested in reading. These milestones, and even simple things like being able to say for himself what is favorite color is, mark a tremendous change in this child. Just a year ago, and up until pretty recently, his trauma was preventing him from truly engaging in and enjoying childhood, and now that all seems to be changing and these milestones are the beautiful byproducts of that change.
Over the last few weeks, Jayden has also begun telling me he loves me. It usually slips out when he’s super thankful to be allowed to go for a play date, independently, and heading out on his bike. He’ll causally say it, over his shoulder, and these are darling, cherished moments for me.
For his birthday, he enjoyed great gifts from us, Grandparents and Aunts, and you can see that joy showcased in these pictures. We celebrated with go-karts and arcade games at Adventure Sports on Sunday and then 10-buck Tuesday at Sky Zone. We enjoyed chicken and corn on the cob with grandpa for dinner and lots of sweet treats too.
Two weeks later he was Baptized in Christ at Grace United Methodist church in Hummelstown by his buddy, Pastor Charlie. Many family and friends celebrated the occasion with us!!
All in all, we’re thankful for the sweet and silly happiness Jayden brings to our lives. And we can’t wait to see what the next year holds for us all.
