On MWF they check in for a zoom at 9:15 and again in the afternoon. Lukas gets instruction on his work for the day. Only a small portion of his work is on paper, most is in various apps which were preloaded on the laptop he received. Nick starts with mindfulness yoga (which he has been fully compliant and participatory!) and then also gets instruction on number and letter worksheets assigned for the day. He uses the school issued iPad and zoom for these sessions. The afternoon sessions are basically just as needed help check-ins, which we haven’t needed so far.
The time in school seems fairly typical except the mask-wearing, spaced out lunches (which is probably a plus for our boys who tend to talk more than they eat), no playgrounds at recess and smaller class sizes. Lukas seems to have the same like for school as he has in years passed which is a blessing. His only complaints are in regard to the neighbors in his grade who are on the opposite ends of the alphabet from us, thus on opposite days in school. Nick is, as expected, less sure or consistent in his reviews of school. On Zoom with Mrs Kelly, he’s his most-charming-self and a future in acting or drama is foreshadowed. Time for routine, in the other hand, is a struggle and full of negative talk. We aren’t sure how to handle it and would welcome suggestions but for now are just doing our best to be a unified positive yet calm, encouraging influence. (Feel free you throw some prayers on that for us.)
Jacob starts back at Derry Pre in the 4’s class next week, and they’ve got a cubby reserved for the other little guy. He’s excited and taking full advantage of his first burst of 1:1 adult time each Tuesday and Thurs.
