Guest post: by Paul Pfeiffer, Jr

It was raining when my almost 4 year old grandson Lukas arrived today.  "No problem", said my wife Jeannette.  "We'll run in the rain."

This is reminiscent of a practice my wife came up with when our children were smaller.  I think she called them puddle walks.  They were, in my opinion, borne out of near desperation ( a boy 9, a girl 6, and another boy 3) and a very creative and playful mother.  And I was on second shift.  All week. Every week.  So walks were very common.  But if it rained, there was an added bonus for the children.  Puddles.  The side walks in West York provided many puddles.  My wife would suit up the kids in boots and rain coats, and she might carry an umbrella.  And the kids could splash and jump in the puddles till their hearts were content.  When everyone had enough, usually cold and soaking wet at their option, they would head home (use the back door please) and head off for a hot bath before bedtime rituals began.
My grown adult children still light up with joy if you ask them about puddle walks.

P.S.--My wife always was and always will be an amazing mother.  I'm lucky she found me!
